Malay Literary Debating and Drama Society
Cedar Malay Literary Debating and Drama Society (Cedar MLDDS) is a stronghold formed by the Malay students of Cedar Girls’ Secondary School, in the pursuit to continue the thriving legacy of our Malay culture and language. Through active participation in various activities that make up the wide breadth of the Malay culture, including
drama, the various forms of Malay
dance,
debate as well as dikir, we hope to establish a love and familiarity with the richness of our Malay traditions in our younger generation of Cedarians.
Other than school-based performances, we do compete yearly in inter-school competitions such as the biennial Singapore Youth Festival, where our Malay Dance is continuing to achieve great results, including a Gold in 2009’s SYF, a 4th placing in the annual Berita Harian Debate for our debate team, as well, as the Aesthetic Value Award for our NUS Poetry Recital Competition, for drama, all in 2009.
Other than the sharing of knowledge of the Malay culture, we hope to foster strong senior-junior ties in our small Malay community here in Cedar, and promote teamwork with excellence in the process. Together, the Cedarians have continued to do the school proud in the local Malay cultural arena with their constant hard work. In future, we hope to bring our CCA to greater heights, and also, keep the torch of Cedar burning bright.
Our CCA sessions are on
Monday and
Friday from
3.30 to 5.30 pm, but we will increase the regularity of our practices with upcoming performances and competitions.
